Going to the Border with Suzanna Lee

Hiya, Elle’s Studio fans! It’s Suzanna here today and we are going to the border! The “edges” of the border, that is, with this month’s stamp: Fun with Borders! Fourteen border stamps and so very many options! I have created six layouts with the May 2021 kit and add-ons and used this stamp set in each and every one. It has to be one of my new favorites.

Supplies | May 2021 KitMay 2021 Cut Files, Yellow Cardstock Label Stickers, Treasure This Vellum StickersYellow Parker Acetate Alphabet StickersPuffy Banners and Border Stickers, Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers – Warm Tones, Good Times Paper Stack, Fun with Borders Stamp

The bulk of the right hand side of this large photo layout was created using the Fun with Borders Stamp. The “bordered lines” form the whole column, stamped askew as you move down the page, with black ink. These lines form the foundation that houses the rest of the embellishment for the page.

The color palette of this large embellishment cluster draws it’s origin from the rainbow striped paper found in the new Good Times Paper Stack that pokes out from the edge of the photo. Intermingled as you move down the page are digital die cut borders from the May 2021 Cut Files. These are a great digital version of some of the stamps, the Puffy Banners and Border Stickers, Treasure This Vellum Stickers and various dies from the main kit.

Interspersed amongst all those goodies are various stamps from the Fun with Borders Stamp. Each of the different borders is stamped in the corresponding color to that of the patterned paper.

Hopefully I can save you some detective work and here are the inks that I used (as you move from top to bottom);

Red – VersaFine, Satin Red

Pink – Catherine Pooler, Be Mine

Rust/Orange – PaperPerson, Tomato Soup

Lt Orange – Pink Fresh, Peach Fuzz

Yellow – PaperPerson, Goldenrod

Lt Yellow – Catherine Pooler, Chiffon

Purple – Jane Davenport, Sea Anenome

Violet/Lt Purple – Distress Oxide, Milled Lavender

Aqua – Distress Oxide, Evergreen Bough

Mint – Pink Fresh, Mint

Navy Blue – Distress Oxide, Chipped Saphire

Lt Blue – Distress Oxide, Tumbled Glass

Bright Blue – Distress Oxide, Salty Ocean

Green – Catherine Pooler, Grass Skirt

Not to say that there aren’t other inks that would match, but this is a great starting point!

Be sure to visit the shop and look at the bottom of the page for the Fun with Borders Stamp where you will lots of other great uses for this stamp set. Be sure to watch for upcoming projects on my YouTube or Instagram page, too, for other uses and inspiration!

Thanks for stamping in today, I hope you enjoyed your time at the border!

We can’t wait to see how you use our new Fun with Borders Stamp when it lands on your doorstep! Share your projects with us on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio and in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group!

Creating with Color and Jackie Ashton

Hi friends! It’s Jackie here using the May 2021 kit and add-ons to create a fun grid format layout.

Supplies | May 2021 Kit, Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers – Yellow, Yellow Cardstock Label StickersYellow Parker Acetate Alphabet Stickers, Puffy Banners and Border Stickers, Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers – Warm TonesCork Words, Good Times Paper Stack, Fun with Borders Stamp, Knockout Words Metal Die

To start this layout, I decided to focus on color, so I used the red colour from my son’s tee-shirt, combined it with the yellow Jane Tile and Parker Acetate alphabets, and choose the striped patterned paper, which included mint, to help tie the colors together.

After choosing three of the tags from May 2021 Kit that would work with my photographs and the color scheme I was using, I layered patterned papers from the new Good Times Paper Stack behind each one, leaving a slight border around the edge.

I wanted to add some detail to each of my tags. Starting at the top left of my page, and using patterned papers from the Good Times Paper Stack, I added a die-cut word from the Knockout Words Metal Die which I backed with patterned paper and adhered to the tag before adding my journalling.

On the ‘favorites’ pocket tag I added three of the gorgeous Puffy Banners and Border Stickers, and stamped some phrases from the Fun with Borders Stamp.

I layered three pieces of patterned paper from Good Times Paper Stack in the centre of the page, and used the lovely Yellow Parker Acetate Alphabet Stickers, to add my title.

Once I had adhered it all down it was time to add some embellishments, using some of the lovely add-ons this month.

Don’t you just love these fun Cork Words which fit perfectly at the top of each of photographs?!

I have loved using the May 2021 kit and add-ons and I’ve found by just choosing three colors from the kit to work with, my layout came together quickly!

Do you have a particular way to tie your photographs and products together? Do you start with one product and work from there, or do you choose a color in your photograph as your starting point? I would love to find out what your approach is when creating a layout!

Label Love with Wei Wei Wang

Hi Elle’s friends! It’s Wei Wei here. Do you notice that Elle’s Studio releases awesome labels that coordinate with every monthly kit? And do you need more inspiration to use your labels instead of adding them in your stash? Today, I would like to show you how to incorporate labels with other scraps from the April 2021 Kit and add-ons into your layout for a different look.
This layout was so much fun to make. If you don’t have the April labels yet, I’m telling you … go now and order them. They are so versatile and fun to use! You will love them and find so many uses for them throughout your layout.

Supplies | April 2021 Kit, April 2021 Labels, Smile Cardstock Die CutsSpringtime Stickers, Adventure Puffy Label Stickers, White Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Acetate Heart StickersTeal Parker Acetate Alphabet Stickers, Smile Wood VeneersLove This Smile Stamp

I had some mountain climbing photos and wanted to show them in one traveler’s notebook spread. I thought the April Labels were perfect to document my story and a good way to decorate my layout.

First, I resized my photos to the same size as the April Labels and printed them out. Then, I grabbed the April Labels, trimmed them down into individual labels, and arranged them on my background.

I love mixing textures on my projects, so I made sure to add different types of embellishments on my pages.
The labels gave me the opportunity to use all the colors in the April kit, and I chose die cuts from the April 2021 Kit the Teal Parker Acetate Alphabet Stickers, Adventure Puffy Label Stickers, Springtime Stickers, and Smile Cardstock Die Cuts in coordinating colors. For my title, I used the “so happy” from the Smile Cardstock Die Cuts.

I stamped circle labels and sentiments from the Love This Smile Stamp.

For finishing touches, I found the “favorite” piece from the Smile Wood Veneers that worked with my layout well and added it on top of my photo. Colorful Acetate Heart Stickers coordinating with the colors of labels tied my layout all together!

That’s all I have for today. We’d love to see how you finish those April 2021 Kit and add-ons! Post in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group, or on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio!

Getting Creative With Digitals and Patricia Roebuck

Hi Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Patricia here today to show you ways to stretch the use of the April digitals.  For these techniques, I use an older version Photoshop Elements, but you can use what software you have that will work the same or similar. Here’s how I used the digitals in my traveler’s notebook.

Supplies | Adventure Printables, April 2021 Cut Files, Smile Cardstock Die CutsAdventure Puffy Label Stickers, Acetate Heart Stickers, Mini Dated Extras Stamp

To start, I opened a blank letter-size page in Photoshop Elements, then opened the colorful striped tag in the Adventure Printables. I dragged the tag to my blank page, turned it landscape, then continued to drag the same tag over and over again, turning each one to landscape, and dragging each one to cover up the white label in the tag until it covers the width of my blank page. Next, I opened the PNG of the ‘the story’ April Cut File and changed the color by using the paint bucket tool before dragging it on top of my new pattern paper background.

After printing the page, I trimmed it to fit, then added journaling, Smile Cardstock Die Cuts, and Acetate Heart Stickers.

To start my custom camera tag on the right side, I opened the PNG file for the camera in the April Cut Files. I want to change this black camera to match the striped pattern from the Adventure Printables. With the PNG camera file open, I clicked on the Magic Wand Tool and then on the background (not the camera) of the PNG camera file. Now I can drag my new patterned paper background into this file, hit delete, then ESC. Next, I drag and this striped camera to the fuchsia framed tag from the Adventure Printables, print, and then trim the tag for my pocket.

I finished this tag with an Acetate Heart Sticker and a Adventure Puffy Label Stickers.

These are very simple effects, but really great ways to stretch the use of the Elle’s Studio digital files and use them in different ways. I hope you give this a try in software you have that may do the same or similar techniques, or come up with another idea inspired by these!  Have fun getting digital!

Mother’s Day Moments: Favorite Memories in Pockets with Jen McMurtrey

Hello friends! It’s Jen today with a project that is vastly different than my usual 12″ x 12″ layouts and one that took me way out of my comfort zone. This month I was challenged to create a Mother’s Day project that was not a layout or a card . . . say what?! One would think that creating a pocket page spread would be easy . . . print some photos, add a few embellishments, and put them in pockets. Well, that wasn’t the case with me and it took the better part of a day to get this one done. The effort, however, was well worth it.

Let’s take a look at the two-page layout.

Supplies | April 2021 KitSmile Cardstock Die Cuts, Adventure Puffy Label Stickers, White Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Acetate Heart Stickers, Cork HeartsSmile Wood Veneers, Large Acetate Numbers, XOXO 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Title Builder Stamp, Title Builder Vol. 3 Stamp, Title Builder Vol. 4 Stamp, Pocket, Frame, and Flip Up Metal Die

This project began by through photos of my kids and selecting those that I wanted to use. In order to keep everything from clashing, I chose to print each of them in black and white and use a simple color palette when embellishing.

On the left side of the spread, I used my large-format printer to print a 12″ x 12′ photo that was taken last year on Mother’s Day. Along the bottom of the picture, I added three Large Acetate Numbers and a Cork Heart.

Next, I selected a pocket page and began planning the placement of my photos. The 4″ x 6″ photo on the top left was taken the day my youngest child was born. This was backed with patterned paper from the XOXO Paper Stack and embellished with an Acetate Heart Sticker and a die cut from the April 2021 Kit.

Continuing from left-to-right, I added photos of my oldest that show her when she was younger and now. On each of the kids’ older pictures, I added an Acetate Heart and their first initial using the White Puffy Alphabet Stickers. I love having the old and current photos side-by-side and seeing just how much each of them has changed.

To create the title, I used three of the Title Builder Stamps with a journaling tag from the April Kit. It is simple, but says a lot in terms of what these kids mean to me.

Along the bottom row of the page, I added another 4″ x 6″ photo that I cut in half and placed in two pockets. On the left side of the photo, I used the Pocket, Frame, and Flip Up Metal Die with vellum and covered the left picture. I then added the Smile Cardstock Die Cuts and Smile Wood Veneers to embellish the flip up piece and the photo underneath.

On the right side of the photo, I used the same die with another patterned paper from the XOXO Paper Stack to create a second flip up. On top of this, I added a camera from the Smile Cardstock Die Cuts and a Adventure Puffy Label Sticker

Inside the flip up is my journaling along with another puffy sticker.

I have to admit that I love how this project turned out, and I have a new-found respect for all of you pocket page scrapbookers! Doing this double-page spread felt like I was creating 12 layouts in one and it was very challenging, but it was also fun to do something different from my normal routine, and get so many special photos together in one spread.

Thank you for visiting today!

Mother’s Day Moments: Cards for Mom with Nathalie Leonelli

Hello Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Nathalie here to share two greeting cards created with the April kit and a few add-ons. With Mother’s Day at the end of the week, I hope to inspire you to take some time to whip up a couple of beautiful and meaningful handmade cards for the mothers, grandmothers, sisters in your life.

Supplies | April 2021 KitSmile Cardstock Die CutsSpringtime StickersAdventure Puffy Label StickersTeal Parker Acetate Alphabet Stickers, Acetate Heart StickersCelebrate 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Make A Wish Metal Die

Let’s start with the fun fact that I only used one 4″ x 6″ tag from the April Kit to create the background for both cards! The long card measures 3″ x 5.75″ and the square one is 4.25″ x 4.25″. The design of both cards was inspired by sketches found in the spring issue of Scrapbook and Cards Today magazine.

The first card features an assortment of die cuts and stickers in the colors of my background paper and arranged along a punched border.

I love the transparency of the Acetate Heart Stickers, which adds to the layering effect. The sentiment was built with a portion of a sticker from the Springtime Stickers and the Teal Parker Acetate Alphabet Stickers.

I played with a different type of transparency for my second card, creating a shaker pocket out of a diecut frame from the Smile Cardstock Die Cuts.

The stems were cut using a string die from the Make A Wish Metal Die and a sheet of patterned paper from the Celebrate Paper Stack. They’re both inside and outside the pocket with the matching hearts, from the Smile Cardstock Die Cuts, glued on top of the pocket.

I found a perfect sentiment in the Adventure Puffy Label Stickers pack to finish it off.

If you make a Mother’s Day card with your Elle’s Studio supplies, don’t forget to share it with us on Instagram with the hashtag #ellesstudio or in our Facebook Group. I’d love to see them.

Happy Mother’s Day!
