Sketch Day with Tracey Fox!

Hello! It’s Tracey Fox with you today, and I have had the best time this year creating layouts based on the great sketches Elle’s Studio has been sharing here on the blog every month! Today, I’m excited to bring you my take on the first of the August sketches!

This layout sketch is so classic and perfect to create with any Elle’s Studio kit, because you can use a combination of 4×6 and 3×4 photos and tags in a simple grid design for a well-balanced page. For my layout, I chose some recent photos to tell the story of my 11-year-old nephew Simon’s newfound interest in cooking.

Supplies | August 2020 KitAugust Cut Files, August LabelsA New Day StickersChipboard Tags, So Cool Puffy Stickers, Yellow Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Acrylic Hearts, Bright Polka Dot 6.5 x 8 Inch Paper StackSummer Fun 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Shine Brighter Stamp, List Stamp, Title Builder Vol. 4 Stamp

The bright red “currently obsessed with” tag from the August 2020 Kit sparked the idea for this layout, so I used it on the page and filled in the empty space with the word “cooking” using the Yellow Puffy Alphabet Stickers.

In order to fit more photos onto this layout, I was excited to use the 4″ x 6″ tag with space for two small polaroid-style photos. I had two photos that I had downloaded from my sister-in-law’s Facebook page, and it really helped to print them this small (just over 2” square) since they were low quality. I enjoyed dressing up all of the tags and photos with some of the chipboard stickers from the new Chipboard Tags set, because the sentiments on them fit my story so well. For an added detail, I stamped the pretty paint swoosh stamp from the Title Builder Vol. 4 Stamp underneath two of the stickers to add some more yellow to the layout.

Inspired by the half circle embellishment at the top of the sketch, I used my Silhouette machine to cut the sun shape from the August Cut Files right into the background of my page. I backed this area with yellow patterned paper covered in yellow buttons from my embellishment stash, and I just love the fun impact this makes on my otherwise simple page.

Another characteristic I love in the sketch is the small vertical title hugging the side of one of the 3″ x 4′ elements. The word “awesome” from the So Cool Puffy Stickers fit perfectly here and also fit perfectly with the theme of my layout. I used my typewriter to type my journaling on another tag from the August 2020 Kit, and knowing I wanted to add the yellow acrylic heart to this tag, I left that area blank when I typed.

The simple border along the top and bottom of the sketch really helped tie the design together. I chose to achieve this look by using a few strips cut from the Bright Polka Dot 6.5 x 8 Inch Paper Stack in colors matching the layout. I finished the layout off with the “currently loving” stamped sentiment from the List Stamp, some dot puffy stickers from the So Cool Puffy Stickers, and some lines of machine stitching.

I’m so happy with the end result of this layout, and using the sketch made the process so easy and quick! I also love how this straightforward, go-to page design really lets the beautiful, bright colors in the August 2020 kit and add-ons really shine! Thanks for stopping by the blog today, and be sure to share your take on this sketch using the hashtag #EllesStudio on Instagram, or by posting in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group!

Using our List Stamp in pockets with Candace Perkins

Hello friends! Candace with you today to share a pocket page layout using the new List Stamp as inspiration to drive the design and feel of the layout.

I knew that I wanted to create a layout about my anniversary this month but I was unsure about the overall design and direction that I wanted to go as I was creating. When I saw that List stamp I knew exactly how I wanted to design the layout. I love when I get inspired by products and let them drive the design and direction! Here is a first look at the layout the stamp inspired:

Supplies| August 2020 Kit, List Stamp, Wood Veneer Circles, Acrylic Hearts, Chipboard Tags, A New Day Stickers, Bright Polka Dot 6 x 8.5 inch Paper Stack, Summer Fun 6 x 8.5 inch Paper Stack.

I started by printing a bunch of photos of my husband and I over the years. Next, I looked over the stamp to get inspired about the overall design of the spread. I let the sentiments on the stamp guide the cards on the layout. I liked the idea of highlighting the happy memories and moments over the years. I used the “HIGHLIGHT” stamp on the card on the upper left along with a “happy” sticker from the A New Day Sticker sheet to create a title card. I also used a sentiment from the Chipboard Tag sheet along with a cute Wood Veneer Circle with hearts to create an embellishment card on the upper right.

Using a 4×6 card from the August Kit I cut it in half to create two 3×4 cards and added small, square, black and white photos to create two new cards for the spread. I love the look of vintage typewriting so I decided to add sentiments and journaling to the cards across the spread with my vintage typewriter.

For the card on the bottom left I cut a 3×4 card from the Summer Fun Paper Stack and added a sentiment from the A New Day Stickers along with a small, black acrylic heart. The center card was created by stamping the numbered lines on a 3×4 card and adding a fun “I WANT TO REMEMBER” stamp sentiment. I love that I can use the numbered lines to create a list about anything! With the versatility of this stamp set it can be used for any project!

This was such a fun layout to create! I love that the stamp set was able to inspire the direction and design of the spread. It is so important to me to tell these stories and to capture these moments so my family and I can cherish them for years to come. Memories and moments matter! With how crazy life is right now remembering the special things is more important than ever. What will you document this month? What projects will you use the List Stamp for? We would love to see all your projects! Share them with us on Instagram using the #ellestudio hashtag or in the Elle’s Studio Facebook Group

Playful Pockets with the August Kit & Extras and Steph Grimes

Happy August, everyone! It’s Steph Grimes here, and I am going back to my roots on today’s project— 12” x 12” pocket pages! I am still working my way through pages for the second half of 2019 and the August 2020 kit and add-ons was just perfect for documenting the first few days of August last year.

Supplies | August 2020 Kit, A New Day Stickers, So Cool Puffy Stickers, Navy Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Navy Dipped Puffy Alphabet Stickers, List Stamp

For starters, I just adore the colors in the August Kit and extras! They’re a little more mid-tone and just perfect for those late summer vibes. You’ve probably heard me say before that ES puffy stickers are among my all-time favorite products. This month, I enjoyed using the So Cool Puffy Stickers on my projects. Here I used one of the phrases to add a title to this coral 3” x 4” journaling tag from the August 2020 Kit paired with a cute photo of my youngest niece playing putt-putt.

For these pockets, I used all of the 4” x 6” journaling tags that came in the August 2020 Kit. This polaroid-style gray tag was perfect for adding some smaller photos and story snippets about my nephew from our first beach trip together. I also added the chevron die-cuts from the kit to the “You Make the Sun Shine Brighter” tag to tie in all the colors from my spread.

Sometimes, the tags I want to use are somehow just not right. They might be the wrong size for pockets I have left, a contrasting color that I haven’t included in my spread, or something else. I can’t always fix those things, but in this case, I had a 4” x 6” pocket remaining but no more photos or tags that size to use. So, I cut a small strip of paper and adhered this green 3” x 4” journaling tag and a 3” x 4” photo to it to make it work in this pocket. I do this all the time! It’s just a great way to use products and fill your pockets perfectly.

Another trick I use all the time is really quite simple. I just use the format given to me by the tag and let that guide my design. In this case, this 4” x 6” “remember” tag was perfect for holding a list about the things I wanted to document from this trip. It was perfect for this page since I was able to reflect on the things I remember now about this trip that took place last year and make note of all that I want to recall every time I look back at these photos.

Here’s a look at each side of my spread up close:

Summer Memories Week: Using Your Summer Scraps with Melissa Mann

Our final day of Summer Memories Week focuses on those scraps sitting around from your June and July kits! Whether you were able to break into your boxes or not, we think that design team member Melissa Mann’s mini album project that uses all of the beautiful colors and products from both releases will inspire you to mix and match your kits to create something wonderful! Let’s take a look:

Hello! This is Melissa on the blog with you today and I’m sharing another mini book I put together using the leftover pieces from my June and July kits! It never fails to amaze me how seamlessly Elle’s products from one month can be used with another month’s goodies!

Supplies | July 2020 Kit, June 2020 Kit, July 2020 Cut Files, Ice Cream Stickers, Summer Stickers, Chipboard Star Stickers, Summer Chipboard Stickers, Navy Dipped Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Hello Wood Veneer, Summer Wood Veneers, Acrylic Bicycles, Summer Fun 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack

I was cleaning out some supplies in my craft room and found old chipboard pieces that were a rectangular shape at about 7 inches in length. I stuck them to the side with the intent to create a mini album. While I was figuring out how I wanted to use up the leftovers from my last two months of kits, I spied those chipboard pieces and decided to cut them down to a square shape to create a new mini album!

I knew that I wanted to utilize that great Hello Wood Veneer from the July add-ons, but I wanted to enhance it. I decided to cover the wood veneer in Versamark ink and used a bright green embossing powder to emboss the veneer. It worked beautifully, and I loved the end result! I used this, along with the Navy Dipped Puffy Alphabet Stickers to create my title. Elle always includes a great cover sheet for her paper stacks that has a thumbnail image of each piece of paper; I used the cover sheet from the Summer Fun Paper Stack and cut out the image of the papers and used that to cover the front of my album!

I backed each page with various pattern papers from the Summer Fun Paper Stack. I love the variation in colors and patterns when I look at the album!

I always decide on these three major components first: size, theme, and what sized photos I will use. I find it much easier to choose my photos and edit the sizes to all be the same in Photoshop. Then it is simply a process of covering the pages in paper or cardstock and embellishing simply with coordinating add-ons!

Mini albums don’t have to be an overwhelming project! I love to create these to use up a bunch of little pieces of things that are leftover from a project.

Simple layers are the key to my mini albums—layering paper, tags from the monthly kits, my photos, die cuts, labels and stickers with a wood veneer or chipboard sticker keep each page interesting and different than the last!

I hope you’ve been inspired to use your June and July scraps to put together a fun mini album this weekend! It’s a great way to use up your stash, and you’re sure to have fun while creating! Thanks for stopping by!

Summer Memories Week: A Sweet and Simple Mini Album with Amanda-jayne Baldwin

A mini album can be perfect for documenting a short period of time, especially a season, and our June and July products are the perfect ones for creating a quick coordinated mini, as design team member Amanda-jayne Baldwin is showing us today! Let’s take a look at her sweet and simple mini album that records the best summer moments!

Hi everyone! Welcome back for more Elle’s Studio Summer inspiration!

It’s Amanda here, and today I am sharing a super quick & easy mini album made from my ‘left over’ items from our June & July releases. It only takes a few minutes to create this mini and it is perfect for recording those sweet summer memories! Yay!

Here’s a look at my album cover:

Supplies | July 2020 Kit, June 2020 Kit, July Labels, July Label StickersSummer Tape Stickers, Summer StickersSummer Chipboard Stickers, Chipboard Star Stickers, Adventure Wood Veneers, Bright Polka Dot 6.5 x 8 Inch Paper Stack, Summer Fun 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack

So bright, cute and fun!

The Summer Fun Paper Stack patterns are the perfect mix of summer colors and patterns, and made for a terrific album cover! I decorated mine with a couple of die cuts from the July Kit, one of the July Labels, a Summer Chipboard Sticker, and that cute heart veneer!

Tip: The heart veneer is actually the ‘Wild At Heart’ veneer from the Adventure Wood Veneers, but I flipped mine to the blank side to better suit my project!

To create my simple flip album, I backed the Summer Fun Paper Stack paper with the purple print from the Bright Polka Dot Paper Stack and adhered together. I repeated this step with two more papers, so I ended up with 2 double sided 6′ x 8.5″ papers in total. I scored & folded both sheets at the 4 1/4″ mark, and machine stitched them together across the scored line to form my album. Yep, it’s that simple! And as I mentioned earlier, a great little mini for using up all your scraps with!

Let’s look inside:

Hello, indeed! The Bright Polka Dot Paper Stack purple paper coordinated perfectly with the ‘hello’ tag from the July Kit. I chose to decorate these pages very similarly to a four, 3″ x 4″ pocket page (minus the pockets) and let my photos do most of the talking. I added a little bit of story telling with the Summer Stickers, then embellished my photos and album with a couple of the Summer Chipboard and Summer Tape Stickers. Here’s a closer look:

Super sweet for summer! Here are the next pages:

The landscape orientation of my photographs meant that I could only fit one photo per page, but I think these pages turned out just fine! To encourage cohesion between them, I backed both photos with the light purple journaling tags, courtesy of the June & July Kit, and kept to similar embellishments. This time I combined gray with the purple color palette to create a really fresh and clean look. The gray Summer Chipboard and July Label Stickers look really effective together, and the Summer Stickers were utilized again for some simple journalling. Love it!

The final page to this sweet summer mini is slightly different to the others. I have still used the same purple color scheme and mix of Chipboard, Summer Tape and Summer Stickers to embellish with, but, I have also left lots of space to hand write the story. This is a really important detail to me—I want my children to write their own little sentence or two about this summer. I think that in years to come they will really value what they’ve both recorded. As both of them will need to write something, I have left space on both pages.

Such a simple, and sweet summer mini!

I hope you’ll feel inspired to make your own today! It only takes a few minutes and you’ll be so glad you did! Happy summer memory-making!

Summer Memories Week: Documenting in Pockets with Stacie Watson

If you want to get a lot of summer moments documented, a pocket page is the way to go! It holds a lot of photos and stories, and can be customized with as little or as much embellishment as you like, or have time for before you hit the pool! Today to continue Summer Memories Week, design team member Stacie Watson is sharing a new, summery pocket page that we think you’ll love! Let’s see what she created!

Hello and happy August! It’s Stacie back with you today sharing a pocket page spread using the June and July 2020 monthly kit and add-ons. I love documenting pocket page style and one of my favorite things to document are our summer days. For me there’s just something about seeing all the bright, sunny, and water-filled photos that just makes me happy! The June and July 2020 kits and add-ons are perfect to help me get my stories told!

Supplies | July 2020 Kit, June 2020 Kit, Currently Icon Journaling Tags, Summer Tape StickersSummer Chipboard Stickers, Chipboard Star Stickers, Wild at Heart Stamp, Currently Icon Stamp

The bright and cheery tags and embellishments in both the June and July 2020 Kits are perfect for documenting summer photos. When I start a pocket page I usually start with my photos and then pick out my journaling tags that best match my photos, but with these kits, they all worked so well with all of my photos that it didn’t take me any time at all to decide which ones to use!

I knew which journaling tags I wanted to include on this spread and in order to use all of the ones I wanted, I added my journaling to one of my photos in Photoshop before printing it out. To finish off the photo I added the “big splash’ chipboard piece from the Summer Chipboard Stickers to it and the photo was ready to be put into the pocket.

The rainbow journaling tag and speech bubble journaling tag from the July Kit were two of the main tags that I knew I wanted to include in this spread. On the rainbow tag, I created a blank canvas in Photoshop and measured the space for my journaling before printing the tag with my printer. I finished it off by stamping “hello” at the bottom using the Wild at Heart Stamp.  The speech bubble journaling tag is one of my favorites from the kit and it was just begging to be embellished with chipboard stickers from the Summer Chipboard Stickers and Chipboard Star Stickers. Of course journaling or even stamping on this card would work out great too!

For my last two journaling tags I did basically the same thing. I added my journaling to the Currently Icon Journaling Tag by creating a canvas in Photoshop and printing the card with my printer, finishing it off with some stamping using the Currently Icon Stamp. On my last journaling tag, I added the sunglasses and “summer fun” stickers from the Summer Tape Stickers. More summer memories documented! I hope this has inspired you to use your June and July 2020 Kit and add-ons to help get your summer memories recorded, too!
