Thankful Week: Holiday Moments Documented with Jen McMurtrey

This week, we are focusing on what we are thankful for in life, and how we can document it in so many different formats: from scrapbook layouts to mini albums. Each project this week will give you inspiration on how you can record the special things in your life at a time when we should all be looking for the good! Jen McMurtrey is with us today to kick off this week of thankfulness with a layout that records a special person and holiday memory. Let’s take a look!

Thankful, grateful, and blessed are three words I am really embracing these days. With all the uncertainties we seem to be facing, it is more important than ever to remember the many wonderful blessings in my life, such as my mom. This candid photo was taken on Thanksgiving Day a couple of years ago, and I love that it captures her totally in her element, basting the turkey and completely unaware that I was watching.

Supplies | November 2020 Kit, Holiday Foodie Stickers, Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers — White, Burgundy Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Fa La La 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Jewel Polka Dot 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Autumn Days 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Mini Dated Stamp, Everyday Tabs Vol. 2 Metal Die, My Heart Metal Die

To begin this project, I selected patterned papers from the Fa La La, Jewel Polka Dot, and Autumn Days Paper Stack that embrace the color and feel of fall and cut them into strips. Next, I used oxide inks in coordinating colors on white cardstock to create a backdrop for the layout.

After the inks had dried, I machine stitched the strips of patterned papers onto the cardstock and lifted the edges to add dimension to the project. Next, I backed my photo and adhered it to the strips of paper with foam squares.

In case you hadn’t noticed by my recent projects, I am totally in love the with the My Heart Metal Die and cannot get enough of them. Case in point . . . this layout. Using the same patterned papers, I cut several hearts and layered them around the photo and on the left side of the layout before adding die cuts and stickers from the November kit and add-ons.

Additionally, I used the Everyday Tabs Vol. 2 Metal Die to create a tab that sits behind the die cuts I added to the top of the picture. I had planned on stamping a sentiment on the tab but ended up leaving it blank instead.

Last was the title, which I created using the new Burgundy Puffy Alphabet Stickers and Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers. Below the title, I stamped the date using the Mini Dated Stamp and added journaling along the bottom border of the layout.
