Fall Fun in Pockets with Kristina Proffitt

What fall activities have become traditions that you go back to year after year? These family fun days were meant to be documented with our October kit and add-ons, and Kristina Proffitt is with us today to share how she did just that—in pockets—and added a bit extra to be sure her favorite photos made it into her album. Let’s take a look!

Hi friends! It’s Kristina here and today I’m going to share with you a pocket page spread about one of my most favorite fall family traditions—going to our local pumpkin barn. This year we went in the middle of the week right when they opened and basically had the entire place to ourselves, which made it even more wonderful.

Oftentimes I love to create a single page spread in my albums devoted entirely to either a day of fun or some activity that we did as a family. Single page spreads are great, but I wanted to show you how you can always highlight a couple of other photos by adding an additional 6″ x 8″ page protector to the front of your spread if you have some extra special favorites that you’d love to showcase.

There are so many great journaling tags and embellishments in the October release to use when documenting all of the fun that you’re having this fall. One of my favorites from the kit is this woodgrain 4″ x 6″ journaling tag. I printed my journaling right onto it and then added a simple little die cut from the kit, too.

One of the cool things about all of the Elle’s Studio kit pieces and extras is how well they not only coordinate together, but, ironically enough—how versatile they are by themselves, too! So many of these products can be used at various times during the year and I love taking a tag from the kit and then creating my own customized look by adhering stickers, chipboard, or other embellishments to it. It’s fun to take a plain tag and make it your own!

Here’s another look at the tag that I put my own spin on. How fun are the Autumn Wood Veneers this month?! SO fun! It’s so neat how a simple embellishment can really accentuate a photo, and I love adding all sorts of embellishments to them. You’ll see me doing that a lot on this spread, and most everything I create! It’s a simple and easy way to embellish your pocket pages without going too crazy or having to think about it too much. That’s another beauty of the Elle’s Studio kits: a lot of the guesswork is already done for you!

I know this Mama appreciates that!

Even on 4″ x 6″ photos in my spread, I love taking the opportunity to look at the lines of the photo and see what sort embellishment that I can use on it. Now, don’t get me wrong, every photograph does NOT need an embellishment, but adding chipboard to photographs like the pumpkin photo above is fun and I think looks really cool, don’t ya think? Those Thankful Chipboard Label Stickers this month are a for sure favorite of mine!

Now onto the part I talked about earlier in my post: adding additional photos and/or journaling to a single pocket page. On this spread, I printed out two 6″ x 8″ photographs that I loved and wanted to include in my spread, but I just ran out of room for them. The front photo is this photo of my husband and kids that I really loved. The Neutral Die Cut Labels are perfect for adding to a photograph like this. I used the white space at the top of my photo to adhere one of the labels which I stamped the date on and added one of the Thankful Chipboard Label Stickers. I just love the look of it and it’s SO simple to do.

You can easily use any size page protector to do this (I just love the look of the larger photos) and you could swap out one of the photos for an entire page of journaling or even create a mini layout to slip into the page. SO many options!

The other side is another 6″ x 8″ photo of a couple of stacked pumpkins to which I added one of the Happy Halloween Stickers right on the photograph and then stapled it.

Just looking at these photographs makes me want to go to the pumpkin barn again. This year might not be a “normal” year, but it’s always so good for the heart when you’re able to go and do those fun, traditional activities that the entire family loves. It’s also so great for the heart to document it after the fact so you can remember those days and soak them in a little bit longer, even when the world might be a bit crazy!
