Documenting Growth with Jess Forster

Today we welcome design team member Jess Forster to the blog! She’s honed in on one of the themes from our April kit and add-ons with her latest pocket page spread: Growth! Let’s take a look at how she’s documenting change and growth in her daughter in such a beautiful way in her pockets!

Hello and happy Saturday friends! Did you see the goodies that went on sale yesterday from the Elle’s Studio shop? There were so many fun things to choose from! What caught my eye were the well-designed journaling tags from the April kit, graphic labels from the Beautiful Day Die Cuts and whimsical flowers from the Lovely Puffy Stickers! These products evoke the feeling of spring and new beginnings. Inspired by the theme of growth, I decided to create a layout about my daughter maturing. Have a look!

In this 6″ x 8″ double page spread, I documented some of the details about my daughter, Rowan’s development. Currently she is eight years old and she is growing up in so many different ways. Sometimes I catch myself thinking “When did she become so tall?” and I marvel at her current interests and likes. I also wanted to write a letter to her telling how how proud I was of her in this time of social distancing and COVID-19.

Inspired by the warm tones in the 3″ x 4″ tags from the April 2020 Kit, I used those colours to help inform my photo choices for my pocket page.  I loved the analogous colour scheme of red, coral and purple, and selected photos of Rowan in a pink jacket from a recent evening scooter ride. I printed two photos: one sized 6″ x 8″ and the other sized 3″ x 4″, both of which I snapped during the “golden hour.” I love how full of life the photos feel when paired with the labels from the Beautiful Day Die Cuts and the flowers from the Lovely Puffy Stickers. I also love highlighting our daily walk, which is a life-line to sanity as we shelter at home.

Lastly, I combined the words “grow” and “ing”from the Title Builder Vol. 4 Stamp to create a title and also highlight the theme of growth. I love how these words add dimension to the page and how fun it is to stamp on the labels from the Beautiful Day Die Cuts!

And that’s it friends: a few simple ways to document growth on a pocket page. Stay safe and stay at home! There is no better time to craft or use up your supplies. Thanks for reading!
