We are so excited to kick off a new year with a wonderful guest designer—someone we’ve been watching for quite a while now! Tazhiana Gordon’s designs are completely eye-catching, colorful and layered—whether they be mini albums, full layouts or pocket pages. We are smitten with her bold and beautiful style, and we know you will love what she’s created with our January kit and add-ons. Let’s take a look at her first project!
Hello Elle Studio readers! My name is Tazhiana and I am pleased as punch to be the guest designer for January. The releases this month are so good, you guys, and I dug in right away to make this layout, pocket page combo for my first project.
Supplies | January 2020 Kit, You Are Loved Die Cuts, I Adore You Stickers, Jane Alphabet Stickers — Black, Little Moments Leatherette Stickers, Wood Veneer Numbers, Wood Veneer Sweethearts, Love Is 6 x 8.5 Paper Stack
I was inspired by the Wood Veneer Numbers as well as the labels in the You Are Loved Die Cuts and the overall theme of love in this month’s collection to make a layout with a list of 10 things I love about my husband. I picked out a variety of label sizes and colors and used that to size my text in Photoshop, before cutting it all down to fit and sticking my journaling onto the labels. I started off with an 8.5″ x 11″ photo of my husband that I added a strip from the Love Is Paper Stack to make 12″ long—the same length as a page protector. Side note: I was super excited to see that paper pack in the kit! I see a lot of travelers notebook style pages in my future using those papers!
After sticking down all the text to the labels, I arranged them cascading down the left side of the photo where there was the most empty space. I then used the Wood Veneer Numbers to number my labels and to add a bit of texture and fun. I love how they added height and dimension and made my list more of a list, rather than a cascade of labels. They made this page feel that much more finished. On the bottom right of the photo, I used some hearts from the same You Are Loved Die Cuts as well as a sticker from the I Adore You Stickers and called that side of the spread done!
For the left side of the spread, I used a 6″ x 12″ page protector and printed out 3 photos of my husband and I to fill the pockets. I’m a big fan of continuity and repeating elements, so to embellish the photos, I used labels from the die cuts in the January Kit as well as a Little Moments Leatherette heart. Repeating elements helps to tie a spread together, especially when there are as many colors going on like there are in the photos I chose. Finally, I grabbed a 4″ x 6″ tag from the January Kit to use as my title card. I loved that green one because green is my favorite color and Joshua was wearing green in the large photo—serendipitous scrapbooking at its very best! I used the black Jane Alphabet Stickers to add a title, then a Little Moments Leatherette heart, and a Wood Veneer Sweetheart to carry the wood veneer from the right side to the left side. That completed the spread and I am pleased as punch with how this came out.

I discovered the whole idea of memory keeping a few years ago and always kept albums of photos throughout high school. It wasn’t until August of 2016 that I stumbled onto the memory keeping community on Instagram and plunged headfirst down this rabbit hole. Since then, I’ve added different mediums to my repertoire and I think I’ve finally developed a personal style. I love just about all mediums this hobby has to offer, from pocket pages to large traditional scrapbooking. I think there is deep, deep value in telling your own story and not letting someone else tell it for you, and that is what keeps me attached to the glue and the paper and the stickers. When I’m not making, I’m drooling over what other people are making, writing or listening to music. It’s an absolute joy to be able to share my stories with you!
