Capturing in Color with Mary-Ann Maldonado

Summer memories are just calling to be documented in bright and bold colors, which is why our May kit and add-ons are so vibrant and fun! Today, design team member Mary-Ann Maldonado is with us to share some superbly creative ways that she used our newest supplies to document a fun and COLORFUL summer memory! Let’s take a look:

Hello Elle’s Fans! I hope you are a fan of color, because on this layout, I went all out! I cut almost every sheet of paper from the new Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack into a small triangles. Then I arranged and re-arranged until I found a pattern that I liked.  I wanted ALL of the color on this layout to match the “run, walk, ride, jump, play, swing” tag from the May 2019 Kit.

Supplies | May 2019 Kit, May Blank Label Stickers, Teal Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Fuchsia Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts, Everyday Goodness Epoxy Stickers, Play Wood Veneer Words, Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack

For the journal block and my photo, I used packaging from the Puffy Alphabet Stickers as a base. I love that the hanging hole shows. Repurpose and reuse, right? I emphasized that my boy and his dog were swinging with the Play Wood Veneer Word “swing” directly after the word “swing” from the 3″ x 4″ tag in the May Kit.

I really wanted to use the May Blank Label Stickers in an unordinary way.  Why not use them as they are? Instead of wasting the entire sheet of stickers, I sliced down the center of the sticker sheet and tucked half behind the photo layers, creating more color and leaving the other half to use later.

Since the Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack patterns and May Blank Label Stickers were full of color, I added embellishments to match the papers, adding a textural, monochromatic look instead of standing out.  I really love how it turned out!

Puffy sticker journaling in both teal and fuchsia, and fussy cutting the word “fun” from a 3″ x 4″ tag in the May 2019 Kit created the story behind my photo at the top left corner.

I encourage you to cut your papers into a non-traditional shape, use up your packaging and be creative with your labels! You might be surprised at what fun design you can come up with!
