Sketch Day with Tracey Fox

We’re excited to share a new sketch with you this month to spark you inspiration, and create something beautiful in just a few minutes! Today Tracey Fox is sharing what she created with the sketch, and we know that you’ll love how she amended it to fit her layout theme!

Hi there! It’s Tracey Fox here, and I’m so excited to get to share my take on the February sketch, which is based off of the “These Girls” layout by fellow design team member Steph Grimes, featured in the January Inspiration Gallery:

I absolutely loved the sweet simplicity of this sketch, with its large photo sandwiched between panels of patterned paper and just a few well-placed elements. I knew I wanted to take advantage of this design to feature a very special photo from my best friend’s wedding.

Supplies | February 2019 Kit, Bright Die Cut Labels, Light Purple Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Oh Happy Day Stamp, All My Heart 6 x 6 Paper Stack, Title Builder Vol. 2 Stamp

I love how the sketch adapts the inspiration layout into a 12″ x 12″ page, because I definitely wanted to go big with this layout. After printing my photo 9 inches wide, I adhered it to a dark grey cardstock background and topped it with a couple of patterned strips I cut from tags in the February 2019 Kit

Inspired by the scalloped edge at the bottom of the block in the sketch, I decided to create a panel of layered circles under my photo, punched from some of the beautiful patterns found in All My Heart 6 x 6 Paper Stack. By adhering the circles onto a piece of cardstock, I was able to easily trim off the edges to create a block with straight sides before tucking it under my photo and sticking it down.

I had the best time building the title for my page! I used a variety of items, including a die cut from the February Kit, some of the new Light Purple Puffy Alphabet Stickers, and two word stamps from the Title Builder Vol. 2 Stamp. I even used the “all my heart” sentiment from the cover sheet from the All My Heart 6 x 6 Paper Stack, which I adhered onto a purple bordered label from the Bright Die Cut Labels.

I embellished the layout simply, using just a couple of die cuts from the February Kit, and for the final touch, I used white ink to stamp some little clusters of hearts using the tiny heart stamp from the Oh Happy Day Stamp. I love how this mimicked the dots Steph stamped on her layout using the Happy Heart Stamp in the layout that inspired the sketch.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! I’d love to see how you would interpret this sketch. Be sure to share your own takes in the Elle’s Studio Facebook Group and tag #ellesstudio when you share on social media!
