Documenting Character Traits with Jess Forster

Hands up if you’re a fan of writing notes to you kiddos? Journaling love letters to my children is a technique that I often use in my layouts. When I saw three, 3″ x 4″ bright teal journaling tags in the January 2019 Kit, I was inspired to document some of the character traits that are emerging in my daughter! Have a look:

In this 9″ x 12″ double pocket page layout, I highlighted my daughter’s patience and flexibility she displayed during a recent family adventure one Saturday afternoon. Simple details of that September 2018 outing were recounted on the “important notes” 3″ x 4″ journaling tag.

I loved the photo of my daughter doing a full backbend so much that I enlarged it to 9″ x 12″. Using the “photo details” journaling tag, I noted the photo symbolism about “being flexible” in both body and mind. I wrote from a present day perspective, reflecting & telling a deeper story of how far my girl has come in these last 5 months.  My daughter is on the autism spectrum, and patience and flexibility are two character traits my husband and I are actively trying to help her cultivate. I am so happy that she has real amazing moments of being easy going and calm.

Lastly, on the teal, 3″ x 4″ bullet journaling card, I noted some of daughter’s other values or behaviours that we are noticing. I wanted to acknowledge and positively reinforce them. Jotting down simple traits in a list, also helps to expand the layers of the story I am telling.

Hooray for black, white and teal colour combinations as well as telling a story from a variety of vantage points! I hope I have inspired you to document your own, or your children’s character traits that are emerging within your family.
