Journaling the Real Life Details with Tessa Buys

For so many of us scrapbookers, seeing our photos in print on our pages is the most important part of our hobby, but what good are our photos without the stories that they tell? Today, Tessa Buys is sharing a new layout featuring the February 2017 Exclusive Kit in which she delves into the details: good and bad, of her life right now. We hope it inspires you to use your Elle’s Studio tags to jot down those stories today!

Hello Elle’s Studio friends! Tessa Buys here. Journaling is near and dear to my heart. A long time ago my dad was looking at some of my completed scrapbook pages and asked, “Where are the stories?” Seeing how important the words were to my dad made me consider adding more journaling, and while at times I don’t need many words, I do make the effort more often than not to document the story. I love that Elle’s Studio products help me do so in a creative way. Case in point, my latest layout, using the February kit and some other extras from the shop.

I started with the “Real Life” tag from the February Exclusive Kit, then cut out all of the February Labels that coordinated with my photo. I lined up three copies of my picture and used the rest of the space for documenting. In a combination of handwriting and stamps from the What Happened Stamp, I detailed some not-so-fun, real life moments, which gave way to a list of things I am grateful for.

I wrote out my journaling on a scratch piece of paper before I began gluing down labels and tags. With the stamped phrases in mind, I organized my journaling in a way that would fit on the labels and tags, as well as between them. Once I had an arrangement I liked, I began writing, stamping and gluing. I also added in a few stickers. Journaling with two pen points – 0.1 and 0.5 – added some added variety.

A little bit of ink splatter, a few Puffy Heart Stickers, and some circle puffy stickers from the Everyday Labels Puffy Stickers were all I needed for embellishment. I just let the creative journaling do the talking. If it’s been awhile since you really told a story on a page, consider doing so! And if you need a creative way to get the job done, fill up your layout with labels and tags. In any arrangement, you words will take center stage and you’ll love the result. Happy scrapping!
