Mixed Media Monday

We are so excited to introduce to you Mixed Media Monday!
Be prepared for an adventure into paint, mist, watercolors, texture, and lots & lots of color!

For my layout, I used a combination of mists, paint dabbers, a Copic marker for my large journaling, black Gesso, and of course Elle’s Studio Stamps.

photo-1Since it was to be an “Earth Day” theme, my first step was to create a circle. I just started adding a few colors and filling with the mists until I got close to what I had in mind. I think that really is the fun part of incorporating Mixed Media into your scrapbooks. It may not end up exactly where you intended it, but in the end it’s something completely fun and invigorating. photo-2A simple technique to keep in mind when using paint dabbers is that you can just paint a portion of the stamp if you don’t want the entire saying… photo-3Love the way the paint flows right over the picture! photo-4-copyWhen it all came together, I was so excited! I think mostly because it was just a FUN layout to make. It allowed me to be messy and dig down deep into my creativity. I’m thinking it’s a good stress reliever and I’ll be doing it more often! LOL!photo-4 photo-3-copy

But wait! There’s more!

I have two amazing gals from the contributing team joining me today as well!

Jen Chapin created a beautiful watercolor effect on her layout using Gelatos & Gesso :jenchapin_mixed media (5)1 – Place a stencil on your background cardstock and paint gesso over it. Let dry. jenchapin_mixed media (1)2 – Use gelatos to color on a piece of plastic packaging and wet it with a brush. jenchapin_mixed media (2)3 – Press the color on to your background.  jenchapin_mixed media (3)

4 – Allow to dry. Wipe the gesso with a paper towel; it will act as a resist against the color.
