I was so thrilled when Emily agreed to be our June Guest Designer!  I have loved her work for a long time and was excited to see what she would do with our two new collections, Saltwater and Cameron.  And goodness, she rocked it!  Make sure to see her full gallery for incredible inspiration!   Thank you so much for joining us this month Emily!!   Now to get to know her a little better….

Why did you start scrapbooking and how did you get started?

I started scrapbooking in about 5th grade!  I wanted a way to keep track of all my photos, so I grabbed some white typing paper and crayons and I was off.  I’ve been scrapbooking more seriously the past 5 years, and I’ve gotten much more involved in the online scrapbooking community and the whole world of publishing and design teams, which is very fun and exciting.

What are three products you can’t live without?

Patterned paper, alphabet stickers, and my stapler!  I am a pretty basic scrapper! 🙂  I will admit however that the purchases of my Canon Selphy printer and my Silhouette Cameo have completely changed they way that I scrap!!  So perhaps I should add them to the list!

What do you listen to/watch while scrapbooking?

I have a great playlist on my iPod and also a Pandora station that is always on when I am scrapping.  I like a really random mix of music!  The last few songs I downloaded from iTunes include Serena Ryder, Pinack, Passion Pit, and the Glee cast!  I used to have a television in my scrap space, but I finally decided that when it was on I did far too much watching and not sought creating!  So now, music it is!

What is  your favorite color combination?

Lately I am loving aqua + orange

Do you record every moment or just special ones?

A long time ago. I read Stacy Julian’s book. “Big Picture Scrapbooking” and it completely changed the way that I scrap.  I only record a fraction of our life.  I’ve come to realize, while it might sound a bit backward. that my main goal in scrapbooking is a creative outlet for myself.  Therefore, I don’t necessarily scrapbook because I am trying to record every memory. I scrapbook what I feel like, when I feel like it!  This makes the entire process so much more fun and less stressful.  I get stressed out hearing people talk about being “caught up”.  I’m happy that I haven’t put that pressure on myself, because I know i would never, ever be caught up!

What are three facts about yourself that other’s might not know?

1.  I am a music teacher and a musician (I use that term lightly).  I played the trombone in my college marching band and was lucky enough to perform at two Rose Bowls.

2. I have been a vegetarian since I was 10 years old.  According to my mom, I actually stopped eating meat when I was about eight, but didn’t make my “official proclamation” until 5th grade!

3.  Making anything other than a layout terrifies me.  Cards. Mini Albums. Altered projects.  They all make me shiver in fear! 😉

We are giving away Emily’s favorite Elle’s Studio products to one lucky winner!!
